How Do I Add My Business to Google Maps? (June 2020)

Adding your business to Google Maps is a great way for potential customers to find you and to gain more business. I have also created a video if you are more of a visual learner going over the exact methods I am using in this tutorial. It goes over exactly how to add your business to Google Maps

1. Go To Google My Business

  • Sign in if you are not already or click manage now if you are already logged in.

2. Enter in Your Business Name To See if it's already listed.

  • If it is not listed you will want to click "Add your business to Google"

3. Enter in your business name and hit next

  • Enter your name exactly how you would want it, my tip is to add your service that you provide at the end to represent yourself better "Loud Bros Pressure Washing" for instance.

4. Enter in the category that best fits your business

  • If you are having trouble finding the exact category, look up your general service in Google and then find out what your competition is using as their category and copy it if it's the service that you are providing.

5. Here's the example of a similar business

  • I typed in "Pressure Washing" and found that my competitor was using "Pressure Washing Service" as their category on Google maps, this will help you if your business has an obscure category.

6. Find out if you want to have a visible location or not

  • I recommend having your location on even if it is your home address, as this will have you rank higher in the Google Maps and have a greater chance of being seen by potential customers. If you do not want to be shown feel free to click no.

7. Fill out Business Address

  • This is straight from Google themselves "P.O. boxes or mailboxes located at remote locations are not acceptable. Make sure that your page is created at your actual, real-world location." So be sure to use an actual address that you can receive mail to as you will have to verify the address with a post card that they will be sending in a few more steps.

8. Do you also serve customers outside this location?

  • What they are asking is more so for service businesses that will be going out to someone's address, I own a pressure washing business so I always say yes to this as I will be traveling to their house to complete the job. If you are a bakery, but only want customers to travel to your bakery I would say no.

9. Add the areas you serve

  • If you do not put your physical address onto the maps, this will be the best way for you to get found. I recommend putting each town or county that you will be working in. I go with counties as there are a lot of small areas and counties cover all that service area for me.

10. Add Contact Details so Customers Can Contact You

  • Put in your website URL and phone number so that the potential customers will be able to contact you for business! We are almost complete now.

11. Verify Contact Name For Post Card

  • This is the last step, just put in your name for the post card, click mail and it will be sent out. The card will have the full details of how to verify your business afterwards and you are now added to Google Maps! I wish you the best.
